M1 – Explain in detail the responsibilities of the different levels of government in the UK The central government is responsible for the health and safety of people, they provide health and safety by maintaining and improving the quality of the environment. The government also has the power to make laws for the entire country, in contrast with local governments. However, the Prime Minister (David Cameron) is head of the UK government so he’s responsible for all of the policy and decisions he makes.
